A barrel-aged beer is a beer that has matured in a wooden barrel for a while. Usually these casks once contained bourbon, whiskey, wine, brandy, sherry or port. The first beers on bourbon barrels were produced in the United States in the early 1990s (This was not Goose Island, but it is the guys who made BA Beer great!). Beers can be aged in barrels to achieve a variety of effects, such as imparting aromas from the wood (from tannins and lactones) or from the previous contents of the barrels, or inducing a Brettanomyces fermentation. We at WT are big fans of BA and dark beers. This is because they often give different layers of flavor and provide an ultimate moment of enjoyment! Furthermore, these beers can also be aged well! The taste continues to evaluate itself and can become even more beautiful after a few years if it is stored properly. and rarer anyway!
